Battery figures as stated on each maker's specification page or brochure (25 Sep 2026); makers rarely say whether the figure is usable capacity. Estimate = 60% of that figure × listed tariff.

Why prices differ

Three things set the per-unit price: the commercial electricity tariff the state charges a charging station (Gujarat's GERC schedule lists ₹4.10/kWh for LT EV charging from 1 Apr 2025, Karnataka's KERC ₹4.50 from 27 Mar 2025, Haryana's DHBVN ₹6.12), the rent on the site, and whether the operator discounts DC fast to win volume. Free AC points are usually malls, hotels and offices absorbing the cost.

Two-wheeler networks price by time, not energy: Ather Grid lists ₹1.2/min plus 18% GST and Ola Hypercharger ₹2.5/min on their own pages, so they do not appear in the ₹/kWh table.

BPCL's eDrive page lists a flat promotional ₹14/kWh plus GST across India (accessed 18 Sep 2026). BPCL scorecard →

What the station pays: state EV supply tariffs

Each state's electricity regulator sets what a public charging station pays its DISCOM per unit. This is the operator's cost, not the driver's price; the gap between it and the ₹/kWh above is the operator's margin before rent, hardware and idle time.

Prices by city

Quick answers

How much does public EV charging cost per unit in India?

Across 5,776 public DC fast chargers that list a price, the median is ₹17.99 per kWh; the middle half of stations charge between ₹14.99 and ₹21.00. AC charging has a median of ₹16.95 across 1,203 stations.

Is the price per kWh or per minute?

Car networks in this table price per kWh (unit). Two-wheeler networks price per minute: Ather Grid ₹1.2/min plus GST and Ola Hypercharger ₹2.5/min, per their own pages. Battery swap is priced per swap or by subscription.

Are taxes included?

Rates are shown as each source lists them. Statiq's station prices are the amount the app charges per kWh. BPCL lists ₹14 per kWh plus GST, which comes to ₹16.52. Where an operator states GST separately, the network page says so.

Is home charging cheaper?

Yes. Domestic tariffs of ₹6–8 per kWh are roughly a third of the public DC median, so a 40 kWh battery costs about ₹250–320 to fill at home against ₹700–900 at a fast charger. Public DC is for trips and top-ups; daily driving is cheapest on a home or society AC point.
