EV charging station subsidies: PM E-DRIVE and state policies
PM E-DRIVE (central)
| Category | Sites | Subsidy |
|---|---|---|
| A | Government and PSU sites (railway stations, airports, offices) | 80% upstream electrical + 70% of the charger |
| B | Government/PSU-controlled city and highway sites | 80% upstream + 70% charger |
| C | All other locations: streets, malls, market complexes, highways | 80% upstream only |
| D | Battery swapping and charging stations | 80% upstream only |
Subsidy is calculated on the lower of the BEE benchmark and actual cost. Eligible proposers are central ministries, CPSEs and state governments or their PSUs; private operators come in through them.

Quick answers
Can a private petrol pump get the PM E-DRIVE charger subsidy?
Category C (all other locations) funds 80% of the upstream electrical cost only, and the proposer must be a government entity or PSU. In practice a private site is covered when an oil-company or state-PSU network installs the charger.
